This is a basic class for students who have never played before or those who haven’t played in many years.

Bring a friend or two and see how Mah Jongg will change your life (no kidding!)

You will learn the fundamentals of this thinking game. From understanding the Mah Jongg card, breaking the wall, the Charleston, and passing of tiles to how to pick and discard, and identify winning Mah Jongg hands. You will feel comfortable to play American Mah Jongg with your friends and enjoy the challenge and mental stimulation that the game entails.

About the teachers: 

With a collective 10 years+ experience of Mah Jongg teaching, the Santa Barbara Mah Jongg “Pung” of teachers of Helen McCann, Cynthia McClelland, and Sandra Walther have a tried, true, and fun way to get you from zero to playing American Mah Jongg. 

Passionate about the game of Mah Jongg and intent on building a strong community for Mah Jongg players to join together in the Santa Barbara area, Helen, Cynthia, and Sandra believe in the importance of teaching not only the skills needed for Mah Jongg, but the etiquette and history of the game.
